Eadie in the Evening
– EPISODE: 1 College Majors –
Game show room. Eadie sits at a desk while the camera pans around until it settles on her.
E: Welcome back to Eadie in the evening, this is your host Eadie Nadeau and today we have two guests here to talk about college majors. As some may know, picking a major in college can be pretty hard, but we have two pros here in the studio today to give you guys some guidance on picking a major. First off we’re gonna travel back in time to when I graduated from college at the University of New England.

E: I graduated with a 4.0 majoring in Pre-PA. I ended up going to PA school for 2 years after my undergrad and I have worked as a PA for 20 years. Now I’m hosting Eadie in the Evening. Being a pre-PA meant a lot of credit hours and a lot of science classes but I ultimately came out with a really good grasp on what I would be learning in PA school. The minimum amount of credits that I needed was 126 credits. I took a lot of different biology and chemistry classes, statistics, calculus, and so many others. I used to spend around 4- 5 hours a day after school on classwork and homework, but now I’m retired and here hosting.
E: Anyways, it’s time to get started. Let’s welcome our first guest Keira Carney!
C: *Fake Crowd Noise*
Keira walks in from the back room and comes to sit on the couch.
K: Hi! I’m so excited to be here.
E: We’re excited to have you on our show! So, Keira, I’ve been told you are studying at the University of New England. What is your major and what does the degree map look like?
K: So I’m a pre-pharmacy major. Once I complete my second year at the University of New England, I’ll attend pharmacy school for four years. So a simple way of saying it, it’s a 2 + 4-year program. For this major, I need to get 44 credits.
E: Pre-pharmacy so you want to be giving out all the drugs. *sarcastic*
C: *Fake Crowd Noises*
E: Just kidding, in all seriousness this major is very important to this world. Why don’t you tell us about how important it is and what you will be doing with this major once you’re out of school?
K: Once I’m out of college, I want to go into either hospital pharmacy or go into pharmaceutical chemistry. Hospital pharmacy is my main goal. A hospital pharmacy is a pharmacy within a hospital. Pharmacists there prepare, compound, stock, and dispense medicine in hospitals. Hospital pharmacists also dispense a larger range of medication.
E: How did you decide on this major?
K: Since the age of 5, I have been on a lot of medications for so many reasons, and when a medicine stopped working they kept increasing dosages as well as adding more and more medications to help the problem. I want to be able to help be able to create, prescribe, or even just dispense medications that will prevent people from taking so many medications. Taking so many meds can take a huge toll on your body as well as your mental health.
E: Do you feel this is the right path for you?
K: Yes! I feel very passionate about being able to help people get the right type of medicines to feel better.
E: What other job opportunities can you get with a pharmacy degree?
K: Well I can work at a hospital pharmacy or a retail pharmacy, I can do pharmaceutical chemistry, which focuses on the drug design and synthesis of molecules. I can also completely switch it and work as a pharmacist in a veterinary clinic.
E: Oh vet clinic, that’s a great segway to our next guest Mariyalee Delgado. But before she comes on, we have some clips from my visit to UNE this week where I went to ask some questions about majors and college life.

E: Now, let’s welcome our final guest . . . Mariyalee Delgado.
C: *fake crowd noises
Mariyalee walks in from the back and sits down on the couch next to Keira
M: Hello Everyone! I’m Mariyalee Delgado!
E: Welcome Mariyalee, thank you for coming today. I hear you are also studying at the University of New England, but in a different major. Why don’t you tell us about it.
M: My major is Animal behavior. My major is devoted to helping people understand why animals act the way they do. My major requires 42-46 credits. I only need to be in school for four years to be able to get my degree.
E: How did you decide on this major?
M: I decided on this major because I care about animals and their physical and mental health. I want to work in rehabilitation for animals, mainly marine. I’d like to work with manatees, sea turtles, and dolphins. I want to be able to give them a good life so that they can return to the wild and do what they were meant to do. Originally, I was in the Aquaculture and Aquarium Science program but I switched because it didn’t give me much of a chance to be connected and care for the animals. It was more focused on the tanks and pipe side. Animal Behavior allows me to do exactly that.
E: What classes do you have to take for this?
M: I have to take a lot of science and math-based classes, like biology, chemistry, and psychology. I also have to take basic math classes like precalculus and psychology statistics. I also have to take a class to help me with research methods and internships.
E: How do you deal with time management and getting all your work done?
M: I usually use my notes app to mark all the schoolwork that I need to do. It’s like a checklist and helps me feel that I accomplished whatever I needed to do. I also use my calendar a lot so I can see how much time I have for work and for personal time.
E: Oh yes, I’ve heard that school nowadays uses a lot of technology. Back in my day we used notebooks, textbooks, and big box computers in the library. Speaking of technology I just dropped a poll on which major you’d rather do out of our three and what baked good you want Rordon Gamsey to show us how to make next week.
C: *Fake Crowd Noises*
E: Okay, looking at our poll, it looks like (real results).
E: Anyways . . . thank you both for coming out here tonight and I hope all of this information will help those future college students make a good choice in picking a major. Thank you, have a great evening, join us next week for our next segment with Rordon Gamsey while he will show us how to bake ( ). Have a great evening everyone!
